What Part Does Exfoliation Play in Skin Health?

Exfoliation is a key component for healthy skin, and can help to improve many different skin problems. Exfoliation is the act of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. A normal person sheds 30,000-40,000 skin cells per minute, and on average 8.8 pounds of dead skin cells fall off your body per year.

Without using a method of exfoliation, these dead skin cells can accumulate on the surface of the skin causing dull and dry looking skin. These dead skin cells can also trap oil and bacteria under them leading to more acne prone skin. The act of exfoliation will help give your skin a healthy glow while improving texture, uneven skin tone, acne, and even fine lines and wrinkles.

Avoid using harsh or abrasive exfoliating products with “beads” as an ingredient. Most often these beads are made up of plastic which can cause micro-tears in your skin leading to inflammation, irritation, and even infection.

Try using a topical exfoliator like NuPeel that uses Natural Enzymes such as Cucumber, Green tea leaf, Grape seed, Chamomile flower, Lemon, and Pineapple. When used 2-3 times per week, you can actually feel the skin cells shedding off as you work it into your skin.

Also, Skin Medica’s AHA/BHA Cream contains Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids that can be used twice daily as a part of your routine to bring new healthy skin cells to the surface by removing dead skin cells, and also has added vitamins and antioxidants nourish and protect the skin from free radicals.
The good news is that these products can be used all over the body, not just the face!
