Everyone sweats, but when is the amount of sweating considered abnormal?

Sweating is a normal response to heat, paint, emotions, and diet. Hyperhidrosis is a disorder of excessive sweating that can occur in the axillae, palms, soles, face, and/or scalp that result in occupational, psychological, and physical impairment.
Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis can be caused from a variety of disorders including:  illness, malignancy, substance abuse, certain medications, stroke or other nerve damage, anxiety, etc. Hyperhidrosis can also be idiopathic, or have an unknown cause.
For people who suffer from hyperhidrosis, the amount of sweating can impact their daily life and activities. Treatment for this condition varies. For someone with a secondary cause of excessive sweating it is important to first correct the underlying cause by treating the condition. For those people who have no obvious reason to have excessive sweating, there are a variety of treatments to decrease the amount of sweat produced.
Treatment options range from topical antiperspirants, oral medications, Botox injections, and surgery. Treatment of this disorder can significantly improve the quality of life for someone who suffers from hyperhidrosis.
