The Huffington Post recently did a survey where they asked their readers 50 and over what they wish they knew at 25 that they know now?  Among, Saving more Money, Knowing when to Walk Away and Traveling More was number 7 on the list:  Wear More Sunscreen.

Daily sunscreen use is the best way to take care of your skin health and to help fight the signs of aging. Sunscreens have come a long way and are no longer thick, oily and greasy. They come in light forms that can go great under makeup or even are available in powder forms and in primers. When looking for sunscreen make sure that it is broad spectrum and has UVA and UVB protection with an SPF of 30. If in the water or out in the sun for an extended period of time, make sure to reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours.

Could the City you Choose to Live in Make you Age More?

An interesting clinical study, from Dermatology Times, demonstrated that women who live in urban areas with high levels of particulate matter and pollution had a 22 percent increase in pigmented spots — lentigines — and significantly more coarse wrinkling. So it appears that pollution does contribute to the clinical signs of extrinsic skin aging.”

So what do we do now, pick up and move?  What if we could take less drastic measures to keep our skin healthy?  Antioxidants are the answer. Antioxidants can be applied topically to boost antioxidant defense against environmentally induced oxidative stress, and they protect the skin from sunburn, UV-induced immunosuppression and DNA damage.  At Florida Skin Center we recommend SkinMedica Vitamin C and E Complex.  To find out how you can protect your skin contact our office.
