How to avoid Tinea Pedis (AKA Athletes Foot)

Tinea Pedis is a fungal infection that can present as a scaly and/or itchy rash on the soles of the feet and/or in between the toes. A hot and wet environment, and prolonged exposure in occlusive footwear, are risk factors for  acquiring tinea pedis. This fungal infection is contagious, and areas such as locker rooms, and pool decks swimming are knows to harbor the fungus that can cause tinea pedis.

To reduce your risk of getting tinea pedis, you can:
  • Wear sandals around public pools and in showers.
  • Keep your feet clean and dry by:
-Drying between your toes after swimming or bathing.
-Wear shoes or sandals that are breathable
-Wear socks to absorb sweat, and change socks if they become

Great Looking Legs with Sclerotherapy

Spider veins are small blue to reddish colored veins that can appear anywhere on the body, but are most common on the legs. Women are more likely to experience spider veins due to pregnancy. They are usually harmless, but in some cases can cause burning, stinging, or heaviness after long periods of standing. If these veins are mostly of cosmetic concern, they can likely be treated by sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy is the injection of a solution into these superficial veins to cause a controlled irritation, leading to collapse and closure of the targeted veins. Everyone is different and depending on the severity of the veins being treated, most people can expect to see a 70-80% improvement in 2-6 treatments.

Sclerotherapy is offered at both the Cape Coral and Fort Myers Florida Skin Center locations. Call to schedule a consultation today.

May is Melanoma Month

May is Melanoma month! Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Awareness, prevention, and yearly skin checks are keys for early detection and treatment. If melanoma is detected early and is only on the surface of the skin, the overall 5-year survival rate is approximately 98% in the US.  Help us bring awareness and raise funds for Melanoma research. Please join us for the “Miles For Melanoma” walk on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Tanger Outlets. Proceeds go to the Melanoma Research Foundation.
