A New Study Shows that Daily Sunscreen Use Can Prevent Aging

We all know that sun exposure can take a toll on our skin. It not only puts us at risk for skin cancers, but also causes photo damage which leads to fine lines and wrinkles. Sunscreen protects our skin from the harmful UV rays that cause this damage. But did you know that it can also help prevent us from aging? A recent study from the Annals of Internal Medicine conducted a study to find out whether daily sunscreen and β-carotene each protect against skin aging. Participants were divided into two groups. One group was asked to wear sunscreen each morning, after they bathed and during outdoor sun exposure. The other group was asked to use sunscreen at their discretion. What did they find? The group that wore sunscreen daily and reapplied throughout the day had less skin aging after 4.5 years than the group that did not use sunscreen daily. So remember that sunscreen when you head out the door this summer.
